attractive pearl-colored housing. The all-in-one entertainment bundle is
a great way to entertain kids in the backseat, keep yourself amused on
long plane trips, or bide time in a hotel room on rainy days. Among the
unit's favorite features are a selectable aspect ratio (4:3 and 16:9),
which lets you view movies in traditional format or full widescreen
depending on your taste; multi-angle playback, which shows select movie
scenes from several angles (requires compatible DVD); and a multilingual
dialogue option for listening (or reading subtitles) in a variety of
different languages. More traditional functions include slow motion,
multi-speed forward and reverse scan, track programming, and zoom. Of course, DVDs are just one of the playback options, as the M520P also
supports CD, CD-R/RW, HDCD, VCD, SVCD, DVD Audio, and Kodak Picture CD
formats, along with MP3 and WMA files stored on a recordable CD. The
variety of compatible formats is vastly superior to most portable DVD
players, especially the DVD Audio and HDCD formats, both of which offer
far better fidelity than audio CDs. To ensure the best possible audio
performance, the M520P includes a built-in Dolby Digital decoder for DVD
soundtracks, along with a Dolby/DTS SPDIF digital output that connects
directly to 5.1-channel A/V receivers. By employing the latter option,
users can enjoy full-bodied surround sound through their home theater
system while watching films on the DVD player. Additional features include an S-video and composite video output for
connecting the DVD player to a larger TV, a built-in PAL/NTSC tuner for
traditional cable reception, a full-function remote control, and a car
adapter that lets you power the device through your vehicle's cigarette
lighter plug. The M520P measures 10.83 by 1.46 by 7.68 inches (W x H x
