View the latest DVD films in all their high-resolution glory without
abandoning your trusty videocassette collection with the remanufactured
Panasonic PV-D4745K dual deck DVD/VCR combo. Outfitted with a
progressive scan DVD player and a four-head hi-fi VCR, the device is
ideal for both playback (on DVD or VHS) and recording (VHS only), while
taking up a minimum of space in your entertainment cabinet. DVD playback
is crisp and precise thanks to the progressive scan technology, which
stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs when connected
to an HDTV monitor. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the
number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a
picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture,
resulting in a higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating
nearly all motion artifacts. In addition to the video enhancement, the DVD player includes several
convenient playback features, including the ability to view a scene in
multiple camera angles (requires a compatible DVD) and support for
dialogue in up to eight languages and subtitles in 32 languages. Viewers
can also activate the picture zoom to get a much closer look at a
particular frame, or they can take advantage of the multi-speed scan
modes to enjoy high-quality fast-forward or slow-motion footage.
Though DVDs are clearly the main attraction, the PV-D4745K also plays a
host of other audio and video formats, including DVD-Video, DVD-RAM,
DVD-R, CD, CD-R/RW, Video CD, and MP3-CD discs, along with JPEG image
files burned on a CD-R/RW. The VCR portion, meanwhile, offers topnotch
picture quality in both SP and SLP modes, and boasts such features as
commercial skip, a trilingual onscreen display, index search, and a tape
position/tape status display. And to make recording easier, Panasonic
included both a 181-channel tuner and a one-month/eight-program timer.
Audio-wise, the unit supports 5.1-channel DVD surround sound through
its Dolby Digital and DTS output, and traditional hi-fi stereo sound
through the VCR. Additional jacks include component and S-video outputs
(good for the DVD only) and a front A/V jack. The device, which measures
16.9 by 3.7 by 10 inches (W x H x D), comes with a full-featured remote
control and is backed by a 90-day warranty.
